This house was built in the 1840s and is still standing just south of Red Springs in Philadelphus Township at the intersection of Highways 71 and 72
. It was built by Neill Buie who married Caroline McCallum. Notice the white sand in the driveway. I remember the gleaming white sand that was a feature of this area around Red Springs. In the summer it looked like snow in certain parts, particularly along Hwy 211 between Red Springs and Raeford. My own home's driveway near Neill Buie's
home also had it, as well as the house in the white sand as we called it, the John McIntosh Brown home nearby.
