Colin Alexander McPherson was the son of Alexander McPherson and Nancy Dallas. He never married. Colin A. McPherson served as a private in company "C" First Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery. Enlisted 1 May 1862 in Robeson County for the duration of the war. Last muster roll on file for July and August 1864 shows him absent due to detached service under General Herbert.
