The region east-southeast of Red Springs in Robeson County, NC, between the fork of the Raft Swamp and Little Raft Swamp was called Blackfork, or "the fork."
From a 1922 map of Robeson County, North Carolina Department of Archives and History.

Blackfork, or "the Fork," is located in the fork of the Raft Swamp and Little Raft Swamp [or McPhaul's Mill Swamp]. Many of the families who early on lived in the fork were Hendersons, Dallases, McArthurs [Alexander], Hector McNeill, McBrydes, Dugald McKay, among others. Godfrey McNeill's home is reputed to be standing today at the Lowery Road intersection above the Patterson cemetery. He died around 1806 and is buried with his wife in the Patterson cemetery, though their graves are unmarked.
