Ann Flora McPherson was the daughter of Gilbert G. McPherson and Sophia Flora Johnson. The ambrotype was taken c. 1858 when little Ann was in "second mourning" for her mother. Ann married James Franklin McKay on March 24, 1874 at the home of her sister, Mary Jane McPherson Brown, the wife of John McIntosh Brown of Philadelphus. The tintype at right appears to be in attire fashionable just after the Civil War.
